"California Hy-Desert Brand" started as a private joke and blossomed into work that incorporates my sense of humor and personality, as well as my abilities as an artist. Inspired by California orange crate label art of the last century, I depict the "fruits" of the high desert area in which I live. In part, I hope to convey that what we have in the high desert, the raw beauty and largely unspoiled vistas, is a rare and precious commodity. People from all over the world come to experience what this area has to offer. In an increasingly crowded world it becomes even more important that we preserve and protect the things that make this area unique.
Intended to hang on the exterior of the house where they can weather and age, these works are created using recycled paints and desert-aged plywood. Although wired for traditional hanging, I prefer to hang them directly using drywall screws or nails.
